I have got a Nokia CARK-91 Car Kit. I have the instructions, but I dont know where to join/cut the wires.

I have a Yellow, Black, Red and Blue wires.

Red and Black = Power
Yellow = Muting (Addtional Relay needed)
Blue = Ingnition Sense

Where can I buy the relay from, so that the muting function works and where would I connect the Ignition Sense wire?

Better still has anyone fitted one of these kits in there Scooby?

I've got one of these in my scoob, any spotlight relay with FIVE terminals on will do, you can get them form any car accessory shop. You connect the signal wire from the kit to one side of the coil & earth the other side, then connect the supply wire TO the stereo to the input contact, and the wire FROM the stereo to the normally live contact (the reverse of spotlights). When your phone rings, the kit applies a voltage ot the relay coil which disconnects the stereo.

I should read the post more thoroughly, the ignition sense wire needs to be connected to a supply that is only live when the ignition is on, the power wire needs to be connected to a permanent live.

Don't Cut ANY wires. It was two years ago when I did this so I cant remember any wire colours on the car.
However, If you remove the cowl from the steering column & check out the wires into the ignition barrel, you can use a voltage tester to check which wire has power to it when the ignition is OFF, and which wir have power to them when the key is at stages I & II. Splice the Power wire on your kit into the live feed into the ignition & splice the Sense wire on the kit into the wire from the ignition which has power at stage II. This will get the car kit working.
To fit the muting signal, remove the stereo form the dash, bringing as much of the wiring out as you can to ease working. The supply wire to the stereo is USUALLY red, but it will probably have an inline fuse in it if it is an aftermarket unit. Cut the power line leaving enough either side to allow the fitting of a BLUE shrouded spade clip to both ends. Fit these spade clips to the output sides of your relay as previously described, connect the sense wire to one side of the coil on the relay and connect the other side to a good earth. I can't remember the terminal numbers on a relay, but there should be a diagram on the coil showing which terminal is which. Put the stereo back in the dash, job done

You can get both power, earth, ignition supply etc all from the back of the radio rather than going to the steering column.
Also the supplies at the back of the radio wont carry as much noise as the ones from the rear of the ignition barrel.
Used to fit car kits for 10 years.
Also try to get yourself a tax disc aerial, look a lot more discreet.

Thumbs up

Vin

I have just installed one of these in my MR2, and though daunting at first with the wiring it was very easy. What sort of stereo do you have?

I have a Sony unit, and it had a tel mute wire, as well as wires for live, earth and switched live. I just joined onto these wires with the little blue scotchlock things - works a treat

depending on the stereo you have - you might not need the relay...

most common stereos today already have a muting lead fromt he rear of the unit, just connect it up.

And as someone has already said - take all the power sources you need from the stereo wiring...

and if you don't want to drill any holes in the dash to fit the cradle etc try going to www.dashmount.co.uk - u can also pick up the tax disc antenna here quite cheaply

ok the red wire is a Permanant feed tihs need s to be taken off the battery or the battery feed from the stereo
the blue goes to a swiched feed eg not live when ign off
the black is earth any screw that is in the metal surround on the underside of the dash will do
if you have an oe stereo you should not need a relay for mute as most stereos have them built in dont worry about the green wire cause you dont have a power arial
any probs bell me as i fit 10 of theese a week 07970 761454
cheers Jonathan

No probs - if it helps - My Alpine unit has a mute cable! so I doubt that you will need a relay - that is less hassle for you ...

I wish I had known about this site when I did mine it took me nearly all day to fit it!

BTW I fitted my arial under the parcel shelf, next to the CD changer, because I didn't want it outside the car, I've had no reception problems so far.

You should have shouted earlier - they are a piece of cake to fit, and there are some good things out there that help you avoid drilling holes !

Mate,

I fitted a CARK-91 to my 2001 WRX. Just used a cigarette lighter adapter and didn't cut into any wiring at all Not worried about the always on power - do you leave your phone in the car when the ignition's off? Me neither. I have a 4 way power adapter which is secured to the right front of the passenger footwell and provides power for my phone, GPS, mains inverter and a.n.other device of my choosing. Often a fridge. Yes, really.

The control box and speaker are secured to the outside back (front, but you know what I mean) of the glove box with double sided tape.

Tidy, effective and the bare minimum of extra holes should I need to sell the car.

Gossy,

i currently have an MY01 (WRX), but the dash-mount kit (according to their web-site) doesn't seem as "slick" as the one for the MY00 turbo (my last car) - any thoughts?

I could be looking for a full car-kit (for whatever replaces the 6210 - ideally with GPRS).

Keep my number handy when you know what phone you are going to get let me know
To be honest with you i would go for the 6310 as this is a direct replacement for the 6210 a fecking brill phone plus you wont need to buy a new kit the mounts that i do slid in between either the air vent or between the trim or by the radio which means you dont have any of the bracket showin which makes it look realy tidy sell loads of these and only a tenner
