Hi all,
impostor here from beachbuggy.info. I am looking at various conversion options from my VW 1641cc air-cooled engine, one of which is a carburated EA82 which is relatively cheap to buy but completely unknown. The “other” option is a known, running, 2.0L Porsche 914 air-cooled engine at more than 4x the price of the scooby with fewer but not zero installation headaches.
I appreciate that you’re unlikely to be able to give me a direct comparison any better than ChatGPT, but from your experience, how big is the world of pain I’m likely to encounter in getting this EA82 up and running reliably, assuming that it was running OK when it came out of whatever it was in and is complete as far as Subaru are concerned (I know there will be some mating issues).
Any thoughts, experience and advice regarding carburated EA82’s would be welcome.
