Default How long should it take to do an engine swap?

Hi, Im just wondering how long a engine swap should take? The engine thats going in has already been removed. But the old engine needs to come out and i believe maybe a few changes made before putting the new lump in.

The old dials aren't digital and i want to change them over with the engine to run the current mileage for the engine.

Just looking at a time frame so i can get the swap done if it takes a few days i can prep myself maybe get a few extra days off to do the job as space in the garage is tight.

any help is muchly appreciated thanks

With out a ramp limited knowledge? When removing the old engine. If it did t unbolt easy we cut it out as the car was scrap. Took 2 people 8 hours to get it out though.

You been on the Gin&Tonic again bro?
Don't know why you would need a ramp?
And an hour in&out is a bit optimistic!
Saying that I've seen a picture of you and you could probably lift it out with you're bare hands

Took me a couple of hour on my own and not rushing to remove mine,I'm no mechanic either, very nice engine to remove tbh.
Same time scale to install.

As above, couple of hours to get it out on the driveway not rushing and a fair bit of faffing... probably do it in less than an hour if I really needed to as I took loads off it that in hindsight I didn't need to to get it out.

Putting it back in takes a fair bit longer until you can actually turn the key... maybe 5/6 hours, but again not rushing... double checking everything and a reasonable amount of faffing.

Best thing to do is just do it over a weekend and take your time... spray everything with penetrating oil the day before you start, it'll make life easier.

As above. Having done it recently I'd say a couple hours to get it out (on the drive) and a decent afternoon to get back it in. Key things for getting it out are making sure to remove the clutch release fork otherwise it jams up, remove the radiator and fans for more room and be careful with the a/c and ps pump and pipes. I used a winch that I mounted to the garage roof joists that worked a treat if you can do that, though you'll need to pull the bonnet vertical.

For getting it back In, make sure the tm is lifted up to align it, and make sure the crank isn't at the top of a compression stroke (assuming plugs in) cos it can not rotate a little to align the splines on the tm input shaft. That one flumexed me for ages as i couldnt get the engine in until I turned the crank a bit by hand!

ok 1:30 max including Stella breaks

I always need to use a ramp mate as my knees are full of arthritis and carpel tunnel in both arms and my anterior crucial ligament is smashed all thanks to obesity

Cool thanks for the replies. Just need to purchase a few things before attempting it in the next couple of weekends.

anyone know if I will have to change the part of the loom to convert the clocks from analog to digital?

You would be better keeping the milage right for the car and forget about the engine milage, as it will flag a discrepancy at MOT time if you scrub miles off the clocks.

for what its worth mechanical gauges to digital gauges is not a plug and play swap
