Question Engine cold start - how does it sound to you? Please advise

Hey guys,

Here is a short video of my EJ205 with 67k km cold start in the morning with the outside temperature just below 0.
Oil is Mobil1 5w30 Truck&SUV. Video:

There is a kind of ticking\knocking, it is louder on the video than in a real life, seems so. In the second part of the video when the camera moved back a bit, it sounds quieter.
It is quieter on the left side (left front wheel) or in the front or above the engine.
When the engine is fully warmed up, it is smooth and quiet, with no questions. No other concerning noises. I am concerned just about how it sounds at a cold start.

Does it sound normal?
It is an internal combustion engine with many moving parts and it's a cold start, so it cannot be whispering for sure, it's not a Tesla.
But I love my car and care as max as I can. I just wanted to know your guys opinion which is valuable to me.

Thank you in advance!

Guys,

Please let me show you more videos here, that I recorded this morning:

1.
- Cold start (-4C outside, feels like -9C)
2.
- 1Min after the cold start
3.
- Coolant is almost warmed up
4.
- Coolant is warmed up
5.
- After I drove the car for a short distance.

Do you hear anything concerning here?

No one likes to offer diagnosis over the net, but nothing sounds odd there to me. If you've got worries, do the normal checks. Look at the plugs and coil packs, check they're secure, compression test, have the map checked by a specialist .
What specific noise are you concerned with? Engine knock is normally noticed by revving to 3000rpm, coming off throttle, and listening to the falling revs.
Injectors can get quite ticky, and benefit hugely from being cleaned and flow tested beyond 80k miles

Agree with the above, doesn’t sound to me like there’s anything untoward there from the videos you’ve posted. Is there something you are hearing that is concerning you? As mentioned, blipping the throttle to get revs up to around the 2.5-3k mark will reveal any potential big end noises, but other than sounds relatively fine, maybe the power steering pump is slightly noisey, could perhaps do with a fluid change and check the condition of the power steering pipe o-ring.

As said, sounds normal.

But you didn't slightly increase revs when cold and hot (just a short and gentle "blip", not racing)..this would be where you'd hear big ends or piston slap as the engine accelerates, I think I can hear a bit of piston slap (far less than mine was ....even after a new factory short engine). But if there is no oil consumption, slap is not a problem.

There is a bit of tick when hot, but these engines have solid valve lifters (not adjusting/hydraulic), so they do have a noisy valvetrain, there is possibly a valve clearances slightly wider on the one side, again, that's normal as it's better too wide than too tight.

One thing I will say...the engine cranks very slowly when cold. I'd get your battery put on a drop/impedance/conductance test (ideally using a midtronics tester) and check the earth straps.

@ALi-B @Danjo @hedgecutter Gents, Thank you for your comments. They are so valuable to me! This is my first Subaru, which is why I have some questions and concerns sometimes.
As for my ears, I hear a little bit of ticking and piston slap when it's cold only. I don't hear any noises when getting revs to 2-3k rpm. I hear it just when idling and when the engine is cold.
@ALi-B cold cranking is really slow because the car is sitting on the parking lot most of the time runs 10-15km a day only, also we have temperatures around -10c at night, so the battery is not charged well I guess. I might bring it home and charge...
