Manifold Flexi-Pipe for RB5
Hey all,
I've not been around for a while, hoping to get some advice...
I have an Impreza RB5 WR Sport and the short length of flexi-pipe between the headers (manifold) has developed a very slight blow. I rather naively thought I'd have a tonne of options regarding a replacement, but things are proving...challenging. After speaking to a number of dealers and independent Subaru specialists, it appears that it's not possible to simply buy a replacement bit of flexi-pipe. It's relatively easy to buy complete stainless headers, but that's not what I need. Also, all the complete headers I've seen have gone the even-length route which, while having better tuning potential, robs the car of much of its classic exhaust note. Not and option for me.
I'm hoping I've just been unlucky in my search and someone here can point me in the direction of a supplier for this part. The rest of the exhaust system is fine, it's just this one short flexi-pipe that's starting to blow.
The car, while looking very clean on the surface, is suffering a little from rust underneath in places. This year is the year I hope to address these issues. Other than that, she's running better than ever, almost 23 years into my ownership. It's been mildly modified to my specific requirements for years, not big power, but very useable power, and there's really nothing I want to change on it, just maintain.
If anyone can offer advice regarding sourcing this part, I'd be most grateful.
Cheers.

not sure who you have spoken to but not sure that info is correct as we have had them relatively recently and I don't think they have been discontinued as yet??
would have to check but should be able to sort something

Is Alyn "Stockcar" who replied above? Sorry, I've been away from the forums - even as a lurker - for a long time.
@ted bass - I had a look through Hayward & Scott's site, but they don't appear to list this particular pipe. They have complete headers, but they're equal-length, not what I want.
I am following this thread, but don't appear to be getting the instant email notifications I asked for, so I'll keep checking back here.
Appreciate the replies guys.
That looks quite different to the stock pipe on the car. I assume the flexi bit is hidden by the extra metal shroud / case on the pipe. Mine, and others I've looked at, are just a bare pipe, with the flexi joint exposed, no metal shroud. It's a GOOD idea to protect the pipe further of course, just want to be sure it's the correct part.

Mate 2002 registered on the forum, and you mentioned an RB5 is the same car you had way back when. I think we need some pictures (on a new topic).

Thanks @Don Clark - The heat shields must have been removed at some point. The headers were removed for porting years ago, myself and a friend did the porting, but had the garage pop the headers off. I can only assume that the heat shield bolts were rusty or something so it were left off. I didn't personally touch this particular pipe, so had no clue.
@NOSSY_89 - once the weather is a little more consistent and I've given the car a much-needed wash, I'll do that. Yeah, the RB5 is the only Subaru I've ever owned, got it early 1999. Amazing to think it turns 23 years old in a few months.

No worries if not, I'll likely just get that one if there's no alternative.
Cheers.
