Afternoon all,

For those who have fitted the above, am I correct in assuming that I’ll need to take some material off the block or gearbox casing to get it to fit?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, In some cases quite a lot, these are the worst I have come across of a MD series turbo fitting, material removed in the wrong places & still did not get it correct, it can help replacing the hex headed bolt for a cap head, & removing the excess from the turbo in places, so you don't have to murder the block as much.

They changed to a new slightly smaller compressor housing (on the outside) a while ago which seems to fit a bit better. I had my turbo rebuilt and asked for the newer housing and there's was a little gap to the bellhousing now compared to how it was with the old housing. But this depends on the specification of the turbo I think.

Thanks Paul, that’s useful information. I’ll have a look at taking some neat off the compressor housing before having a go at the block. Is it just a die grinder job?

Thank you, that’s interesting. Do you know if there’s any way to identify the later compressor housing?

A die grinder will do it, as already stated, the latest ones fit ok, its the older ones that require work.

Thank you both, looks like I have the older compressor cover (bought it secondhand) so will see if I can get it replaced with the newer version.

I took your advice Paul and replaced the bolt on the compressor housing with a cap head bolt and shaved a little meat off the housing. Had to take a small amount on the block too, but it fits perfectly now 👍🏻. Didn’t take long at all.
