would this method work on a classic impreza to drain the fuel?

Easiest way if it runs is return pipe off into a drum or two and start it.

Dont really want to start it as the current fuel is 2yrs old

Won't do it any harm just wait till it runs out add a couple of gallons and flush it out the same way.
