Default Forester untoward noise..

Evening all. My Xt turbo broke down around two weeks ago and is still sat 4 miles from my house yas I darent drive it. I originally suspected off side drive shaft as near side had gone a couple of months ago. So I replaced it where it stands... Turns out it isn't that.
Have any of you had this noise?

Cheers for the quick reply. Would I be able to take the shaft out without making any mess on the car park it's at and drive it home which is 4 miles away?

I would jack the back of the car up and get your friend to turn the rear wheel while you look/listen underneath to see if the noise can be replicated and better pin pointed. That sound awful!

Being laid on the floor with the brother in law reversing, it sounded like front end, roughly in the area where it meets the gearbox, which is causing a little panic

Not sure how messey it would be but removing a drive shaft without a ramp id suspect to be a pain in the ****. It could even just be the bolts holding the bearing in place have perished causing the slap. surely if only 4miles away recovery shouldn't cost more than about 50-60 to get it to a mechanics to avoid and further damage and more overall costs

So, just jacked up the front, turned wheels, nothing untoward. Jacked rear, turned wheels, nothing untoward. Took handbrake off, put it in neutral, pushed it into position ready for when recovery turns up and the banging noise was there, definitely in the rough area around the front of the prop and gearbox, as I said, that's in neutral while pushing.
Also, while running I have run through all gears from park to gear 1 and no untoward noise there either
