Engine rebuilt by Thwaites in 2017, with 6k miles since rebuild.

Car has VF43 turbo, and STi top mount intercooler.

The pistons should last the life of the engine, just keep your car maintained and use decent fuel and all should be well mate

lets not forget to mention using the correct oil is a major contributor to the life span of the engine

The forged pistons should be changed out every 10k miles at every service generally.

Yahama R1 lovely machine, same as me then mate, I was 50 last year, and like you normally ride in fair weather,
a lot more in the warmer weather in the evenings with friends, still have a passion for bikes, and have always
been into cars, I can walk to work so Subaru be out at the weekends and the evenings in the lighter evenings,
just like anything fast lol
