Default Brake piston travel?

After fitting some new disc and pads I think I might have a little binding. I want to remove the disc and pads put a piece of wood in the caliper and pump the piston in out then lubricate, obviously without going to far. How much travel will be safe. It’s the Brembos on a hatch 2008.

Watch they don't come out uneven. You'd be better putting a piece of wood between the pistons and the disc then pump them out and then remove the calipers. They might pop out completely otherwise. If their binding that badly they need a refurb.

What a seal kit? I’ve heard it’s pretty easy to do I’m just apprehensive as I’ve got to have it running to go Europe at the end of the month. That’s a good point about them coming out unevenly tho I hadn’t considered that

Seal kit and dust boots possibly. If your dust boots are split your pistons could be corroded then you would be better off with stainless pistons.

Pretty sure the dust covers looked ok but you never can tell.

Personally I would remove the caliper- calipers, split & remove the pistons. Lubricate & then re install. Not a hard job at all , give you a chance to clean the caliper half's & given that the seals are ok polish those pistons back up 2 spec . Car will love you for the effort lol

Yeah I’m guna have them off tomorrow, dont think they are binding I had the pads out and I noticed some corrosion between the caliper and hub where they bolt on. The build up had slightly misaligned the caliper in relation to the disc making the space for the inner pad murder tight. I filed if off and the pressure was eased. The tolerance is so tight tho for new RC5+ with Godspeed ghook discs just 1mm space when brand new.

Don’t suppose anyone knows the torque setting for the caliper bolts which hold them together the 4 long ones ?
