I have a 2015 Impreza that came with an eye-bolt towing hook. I'm not familiar with these, and I understand these are mostly for getting your car onto a flatbed tow truck, but these screw in at only one side of the car/bumper. Can someone explain to me why it's not the center, and how is it possible to pull the car from only one side?

Towing hook ties into one of the two frame rails that run down either side of the engine, having it in the centre isn't possible.

 

If you read your US Owners Manual page 9-12 gives you the answer..............

I understand this, but it does not answer my question. I know what it's used for, I asked why it's not in the center (answered) and how this works when pulling from only one side of the car (unanswered) as this seems extremely unstable depending on the situation.

 

Because it is attached to what is basically one of the chassis rails - strongest parts of the car -- and doesn't need to be central for it's intended purpose.

If you want to tow the vechicle (say behind an RV) you would use some form of bridle attachment.
