Default VF36 twinscroll alternative for more power

hiya
I'm looking for an aftermarket twinscroll turbo to replace the stock VF36 on my spec c.
The thing is that I'd like to aim for a little bit more power than the VF36 is good for but want to retain the quick spool / driveability in low RPMs of the VF36 or at least get close to it.
Power wise I'm aiming at 410-420ish at the crank, but as mentioned, spool should stay relatively close to the VF36s.
Any suggestions on what twinscroll turbo would be best for my aim?

SC42 good turbo ran one for a couple of years then sold it to a friend who still has it.

did a car recently which had a billet extended tip wheel fitted to the standard twinscroll VF and it performed rather well afterwords. Spool still very good on it and pulled a lot harder throughout the revs - making about 400/400 on crappy 97 fuel so if you can get vpower a similar setup should produce your power goal.

If your only wanting a little bit more power and your existing turbo is fit and healthy I'd say it's worth considering, but in the long run it may be easier to pickup one of the twinscroll scoobyclinic or litchfield units to drop in.

Bludgod,

Anymore info please on the fettled turbo? Where it was done anything like that. I recently asked similar and there was various other SNers looking at similar, waiting on parts for turbo upgrade. This is something myself & others are keen to try & replicate. Any other info gratefully received 👍🏼.

i can ask the owner yeh, would likely have been somewhere local in norn iron tho!
Car is also fitted with:
forge actuator
3port
fuel pump
front mount
massive diameter induction kit
3" exhaust
ported headers
catch can/breather setup

I think the combination of the above parts really gets the most out of it - you can easily step the rear end out in 2nd and 3rd when the boost hits.

I’m on 3 Port, in wing CAIK, fully decatted turbo back 3 inch, SX FPR, Turbo smart manual adjustable boost controller, updated plugs. Andy Forrest remap @ 376bhp on Momentum 99. Still on TMIC though. I’m after around 400/400 more would be acceptable obviously! But it’s the early spook (let’s go with spool but it is Halloween!!!). I know it’s kind of the holy grail but a billeted VF36 seems a really good option but details are hard to source!!!!! Thank you for any further info!

how do you find the MBC for boost control, are you using the ECU solenoid as well? This car is still on ECU control but I was considering adding an MBC inline with the ECU solenoid so we can push a little harder down low and still maintain some solid control.

I'm also subscribed to this thread,
I've just bought a gt30 to try and modify to run twin scroll using the gt30 front and carrier and the vf36 rear housing but it's going to be a while till it's 100% yet.

The MBC was on the vehicle when I got it. I’ve found it to work fine with no problems with it. Couldn’t actually tell you if it’s on ECU solenoid as well but I can find out. It’s still running standard boost though, that i do know. Will check out that company, as said there were a fair few people looking at this not long back. Thanks for the info. If you hear of more or map more could you put any info on here please!?!?!?! Lots of interest in billeted VF36s!!!!!

if you can grab some pics of the engine bay/vac pipe setup from the turbo to the MBC i can tell you if the ECU is still active. If you can make a datalog of the car I can overlay it with this one and you can see the difference in turbo performance as well.

I see. So it was a stock VF36 with a different compressor wheel and thats it? Fuel is not an issue, here in Germany we have Aral Ultimate 102 octane. How much boost was the car running at 400/400? Was it a 2.0 ?

that's as much as I know about it, there could well be more specific info on it but you'd have to contact the place that built the turbo to find out.

yes it's a 2.0 and boost is quite a lot around 1.7bar briefly depending on what gear your in but obviously still a good bit of tapering in the higher revs.

I still think the LM450 or a twinscroll SC46 would be the better option unless your VF is in need of a refurb anyway.

im away from the vehicle with work so can’t take pic etc. It’s a rock & a hard place. Want a bit more go without added spool time. As said I know it’s asking the (almost) impossible but there has to be a solution somewhere!!!! 😂

I own a JDM hawk with LM450 and while a reliable setup with good top end, it's absolutely not the solution to OP's requirements. As a twin-entry turbo (not twin scroll) it drives more like a single-scroll and spools approx 1k rpms later than the VF36/7.
