Hawkeye 2.5 Misfire
Hi all, I’m after some advice please…
Car is a 2006 Hawkeye WRX, rebuilt, forged and mapped approximately 5000 miles and 10 months ago, running 335/360.
Whilst driving pretty hard at the weekend, the car suddenly developed a misfire and a flashing CEL.
The AA recovery chap plugged in his diagnostic machine which threw up the following fault codes…
P2004 intake manifold runner control stuck open (bank 1)
P2005 intake manifold runner control stuck open (bank 2)
P2012 intake manifold runner control circuit low (bank 2)
P0302 cylinder 2 misfire detected
Once reset, the car still misfires, but no CEL. I’ve not driven it since so can only assume the CEL would reappear once on the move.
I’ve done a bit of searching, however both banks throwing up a fault seems unusual.
The car is booked into my local tuner for investigation end of next week, but would appreciate any ideas in the meantime, hopefully to put my mind at rest!
Oh, and a recommendation for a reasonably priced diagnostic reader would be good too.
Thanks a lot.

I was rather hoping for some reassurance in the meantime... ‘it’ll be minor/nothing to worry about/cheap’ LOL!

Fully rebuilt including the heads, run in for 1000 miles with a 4k rpm limit, remapped on the rollers by the builder. Ran on V-Power since.
I would have taken it back to them to diagnose, but they're a long way from me and the cost to transport it there substantial. If it turns out it's build-related then the car will be returned.
I'm a bit gutted as this car has been forged twice now.

Eek, not by the same builder I hope. Why did the car require a second forged engine? In other words why did the first forged engine let go?

The first forged rebuild was really good. However one warm day the air-con belt snapped and debris managed to find it's way into the cambelt cover. The cambelt jumped and destroyed nearly every valve and marked every piston crown. That engine was 10k miles old.
The reputation of the first builder had by now deteriorated somewhat and their best staff had moved on, hence the reason why the second rebuild was carried out by another well known company.
Every builder I spoke to enquiring about the second build couldn't believe my bad luck.

Just thought I'd report back - it turned out to be nothing more than a coil pack which had become disconnected!
Whilst it was in at the workshop, they carried out a pretty thorough health-check and all seems well.
Fingers crossed it stays that way.
