Default STI V 3 Heads on a 1997 WRX

Hi Guys ,
I just installed a set of V 3 STI heads on my 1997 WRX and it the clearance may be out as it seems that some of the valves may be just touching the pistons when i turn the crank , Doing some research i found that the V3 cam lobe height is greater than the standard cams .
Do STI pistons have like cut out sections or something to accommodate the extra lift ?
Is there a way around this without changing the pistons , Like are there thicker gaskets or something else i can do to solve my problem with out changing the cams , Any help would be AWESOME .
Thanks
Chris .

What size gaskets did you use? (thickness) Sounds like you have used the gasket for the later engine. 1mm thinner

So by standard gasket you mean 1.6mm? As afaik some go down to 0.6mm
Are you 100% sure the timing is correct when you put the belt on?
Also(might sound daft) but the car's not in gear when you're cranking the engine?

Sorry i dont't know by mm all I know is i asked the supplier for head gaskets for a 1997 WRX made in the 6th month .
Yes the car is in neutral ,
Yes timing marks line up but One thing i did notice is when i crank mit round once the timing marks are good , twice all good but the third time the bottom mark on the bottom right side shifted a bit to the right but when i turn it all the way around again the 4th time it all lines up again , Could that be a problem ?
Thanks

Half a tooth isn't a problem.
You definatly using the correct mark on the crank sprocket? There are 2 marks on there, one is for TDC which you don't use to time it up to the alignment mark.
