Oil pressure light flicker on start up
Evening all.
Probably being paranoid here but can someone please check to see if their impreza does this too?
When starting obviously oil pressure warning lamp is on with just ignition. As I turn it over the light then flickers momentarily, as soon as the car fires it distinguishes immediately. It doesn't ever come on during running be it hot or cold, idle or full power etc.
I only ask as I haven't noticed it before and I'm aware the pick up pipes are prone to cracking on these? Car is a 2004 Blobeye 2ltr Sti.
Thanks

Might be as simple as the sender being duff, or having a loose connection.
But might also be worth having the oil pressure tested.
A rebuild is damned expensive...ask me how I know

Normally only the 2.5 engine suffer from the fractured oil pick up pipe.
As in #2, have the oil pressure checked for peace of mind.
In some cases, the oil pump backing plate screws can work loose over time and can bleed vital oil pressure from the circuit,so something else to check depending on the results of the oil pressure test.

Thanks, I've been doing a fair bit of research and have uncovered a few horror stories from the US of 04 Blobs blowing up from failed pick up pipes so it's not unheard of I'm afraid.
Can anyone with a bug or blob confirm that their oil pressure light flickers for a brief second but stays off the instance it fires up?
May have to replace with a new one next weekend for peace of mind, annoying as oil is only a thousand miles old and the RCM baffle sandwich is a pig to seal in situe.

Yes it's perfectly normal, it only flickers as the engine is turning over and hasn't fully fired up then it distinguishes fully as normal.
I had a moment a short while ago where the light stayed on faintly for roughly 5 mins or so, but I had it checked out and it was fine. We put it down to a bit of water ingress at the sensor plug, I've still to fit oil pressure and oil temp gauges just for peace of mind.

Hmm strangely I really wanted to get a video this weekend to post up on there but it's stopped doing it. Now the pressure light goes off the second the starter starts spinning, sticky sensor perhaps.
Had this issue years ago .. the cold weather creates moisture at the sensor and after driving it went .. get a water dispersal spray and spray the oil sensor where it meets the engine
