Default Removal of Front C Subframe

Hi Guys.

Again appologies as I know this has been covered but I cant seem to find a definative answer.

Im currently smartening up my 02 Bug Eye WRX Wagon. After replacing the suspension and brake disks/pads I found a hole in what I think is my C Subframe. I was going to just repair it but then found its ok/not ok to remove it all together and just bin it?

Firstly the pic posted isnt my car im just using it as reference to make sure this is my C Subframe and not something else. But the circled part is about where the hole is in mine.

Is that my C Subframe?

Thought please?? Cheers

Mike

It is there for a reason, but many (including myself) have ditched them in the past.

One thing to keep in mind though is that the subframe is how the undertray bolts on so be sure to come up with another provision. I just cable tied mine

I should be able to fasion some brackets and if theres any room to drill and tap some m6 holes so I can bolt it into place.

How hard is the removal of the C Subframe?

It's just a series of bolts to undo. Nothing technical.

I've kept mine as it's convenient place for my trolley jack to go when lifting a corner for a stand.

When I removed mine, 7 years ago now, I cut small chequer plates for the trolley jack and axle stands,
I drilled a hole in the plate and used a smaller bolt on the hole left , where the U frame used to bolt.

If removed does it affect the crash protection and if so surely it will be classed as a modification and will affect the insurance.
