Shell Helix <<sp>> motor oil

Any one herd of this engine oil?
Any good? I think it is fully synthetic, but I am not sure
The only reason I ask is that is what the dealer will be putting in my car tomorrow following the 1000 mile check over, unless I tell them otherwise.
What do you have in your scoob and why?
Swift replies appreciated as I drop the car off tonight

I guess obvious answer wood b 2 ask dealer if it's fully synth but i must confess i've never herd of it, not that that counts 4 much as i is retard lol. My dealer was using the magnatec which was only part synth as they also service fiats & isuzus so needed sumin all round!?!?! So sod that i now , having trawled thru old threads on this board, take my own millers motorsport 10W:40 fully synth from a chap who's no i got off sum1 else on here
I presume that yers is a new car by the 1000mile checking comment, but i kud again b rong, so i shall have 2 plead ignorance wot is best but erm well good luck chap.

It's semi-synthetic.....as far as I know, most dealers are using this as standard. However, when I asked CVC (Cardiff) what they were using/supplying now, they sold me some Esso Ultra (think that's what it's called) which is also semi. They said that was the new standard oil being used for dealer servicing.
Seems like good stuff to me aswell.....£30 for five litres.

Shell Helix Plus is fully synthetic and is what IM recommend that the dealers use. They will use 5W30 which suits most day-to-day driving conditions, winter and summer. It is a pretty decent all-round synthetic oil. Not much nore to say about it.
If you really thrash the pants of the car and do track days, then Motul 15W50 should be top of your shopping list (a bit too heavy in the winter though). If you are just really enthusiastic (heavy footed red-liner) with your driving then Motul 10W40 is a good all-round choice.

Thank you all for input and KenG for a comprehensive run down. I asked the dealer and they said it was fully synthetic. I went with that. £51 for oil though, it that not expensive  As this was my first service there were no labour charges in that.

I asked Lockyears, who have been servicing my STI for the previous ownwers and they said Shell Helix 10-40 semi synth.
Apparently some of the fully synths are too thin and cause rattles, although there are lots of different grades/manufacturers available.
Eg. Mobil, Moutul, Castrol, Millers and Silkolene.

Steve 555 - £51 - thats a total rip if!!! as I thought they just charged for the parts on the 1000 service - thats one hell of a Mark up
As KenG states Motul is the best for track use. My own opinion is that I'd like my engine to last a while - i.e. over 50000 miles so the 5w30w is too thin
The best oil is proven to be the Motul, but I also sometimes use Silkolene 10w50w - ohhh and neither costs up to £51 for 4.5 lites (including the 15 minute labour charge! and the filter)

KenG,
Sorry mate, but I think you'll find Shell Helix Plus is semi-synthetic and Shell Helix Ultra is the fully synthetic. Shell Helix Plus is the oil International Motors recommend.
Having said that I'm a 'Mobil 1 Motorsport' fan through and through .
Otis.
