Will Dealers supply parts only under warranty?

My Dealer's confirmed that the O2 sensor on the car is faulty. The threads on the downpipe are stripped, so they want to fix this before they'll fit the sensor.
They say that they MUST fit the sensor themselves and won't just supply me with the part.
Is this correct or is it worth contacting IM to complain??
