If it is not doing it in no other gear but 6 it sounds like it could be a problem with the gearbox.SJ.

Was kinda hoping you werent going to say that maybe a cog or synchro problem.. cannot afford a new box as not going to get much change out of 2k...will head to the garage asap then.

Best scenario, worn bushes, worst, knackered cog, chances are its not a serious issue, have you checked the gearbox oil level and when was it changed last??

There was a thread on here a while back, Oilman said about changing the gear box oil for some other stuff, see if that sorts problem out.

Had same symptoms on my six speed, couldn't change into sixth unless the revs were allowed to drop.
Synchros were shagged and as a result damaged sixth gear. After the box was removed and gear set sent to API for new baulk rings and sixth gear all is well again. My local specialist didn't have the tools needed to remove and replace the gear set.
No amount of faffing around with different gear oil improved it.

Syncros are known for going on six speeds in 5th and 6th. Especially older boxes. So it is almost certainly that.
