Default Wagon spoiler

The roof level spoiler on my blob wagon is rattling when closing the boot and appears to be getting looser. There is no noise when driving (yet), but I'd like to sort it as nothing annoys me more than rattling. I've tried tightening the nuts under the covers with no effect, and I don't want to over torque them without having something on the bolt, however I can't see how to get to the bolts from the inside of the boot hatch.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there any way of accessing the bolts?
All advice welcome.

I have the same problem on mine. From what I've read its quite common. You can't tighten the screws as they just spin inside. Only solution is to drill holes from the inside to reach the nuts. I may do it eventually. Recently fitted mid level spoiler so already have some experience in putting holes in my car lol

I've been thinking and wondered if I was to undo the nuts, remove the spoiler and the refit it with some of these:

ebay washer

Perhaps that would hold it in place?

Well, that depends if you are still able to undo the bolts. They are supposed to be fixed inside the boot but with time they come loose. Mine are definitely spinning so I'm unable to either tighten them or undo them. You could try but I'd leave plenty of time for that as it may happen you get stuck with one bolt out and one spinning half way out.

Not sure how the UK version fits but the US one uses rivnuts ("You can't tighten the screws as they just spin inside.") so probably the same.

fitting instructions....
