I did a coolant change along with some other bits, today i filled the rad then the header tank and expansion tank. I put the rad cap on put a funnel in the header tank and turned the heating on in the car. I started the car and a few bubble came out through the funnel but then there were will pin ***** bubbles i ran it for about 10-15 mins and keep a close eye on the temp gauge, the blowers were pumping out hot air but the fan just would not switch on so it cant be fully bled and the bottom hose was still cold so i presume the thermostat did not open. Question is why did the car not get fully up to temp and switch the fans on I left it to idle for a fair while, am i missing something the temp gauge would not go above the first mark usually it sit just below the middle of the first and second mark

 

i had heater on full power would the car warm up more if i lifted the revs and turned the fans down just need the thermostat to open

 

you cant bleed these bad boys, drain it out then the best way is to fill via the turbo hose. pop off the pipe that leads to the turbo from the header tank. stick a funnel in there and fill until you can see fluid coming up in the header tank. plenty of guides on here. not sure if alcazar has a sticky on it...

Dont run the car if there is an air lock.. heads will go

 

would an air lock mean it overheats ? the problem i'm having its its not getting hot enough to turn on the fans, i don't think i have an air lock i filled it as per the way my subaru specialist garage told me to .

 

an airlock could make it look like its fine, but water not flowing around as it should would give false readings until its to late. its the crossover pipe thats the problem and is the same pace as the temp sensor is located

 

Hmmm i hope i have not done any damage ... temp gauge was just sitting on the first mark so its not like it was showing no temp at all not sure what to do now...

personally id drain it right out via bottom hose off and refil as said. have u checked the thermostat?

 

cant say i have but it worked a couple of days ago before i drained it. I have only run it for 10 mins with heaters on full blasting hot air out, I don't know if i just have not let it get hot enough.. should the fans switch on after 10 mins ?? i will drain the coolant in a clean bowl and re fill using the rear most hose on the header tank.

 

No need to have blowers on! Your just removing heat from the system taking it longer for the rad fan to kick in.
Also coolant always passes through the heater matrix regardless of the temp being on hot or cold. There's is no valve that stops the flow of coolant through it.

 

your fans will kick in when the temp reaches normally 78 degrees so will take awhile to heat up and if your temp guage is only on 1st line its no where near the right temp for fans to kick in, the thermostat opens at said temp 78degrees

 

Reading your first post, did you put cap back on header tank and leave it to run a bit?
The bottom hose says thermostat hasn't opened yet
