Default Quieter exhaust but keep the burble?

So, I have a thing where my ears are very sensitive to loud sounds, they ring and feel uncomfortable, overall a bad time for me.

Just picked up my WRX and personally (given my crappy ear situation) it is really loud inside the car which makes it really uncomfortable to drive. This is honestly my only issue with the car.

The annoying thing is, I love how it sounds outside of the car and it is only really loud either from cold or if you put your foot down. It is just that inside the car it drones a lot making it sucky to daily.

Is there anything people can recommend that I look into to reduce the sound that comes inside the car?

I know I can look into sound deadening as much of the car as I can, but I imagine that would end up being quite expensive when I could just change the exhaust. I'd just like to keep some form of flat 4 burble

Any help would be greatly apreciated

Roofing felt without the grit is just basic sound deadening (which audio companies charge the earth for!). VERY cheap

The flat four burble is down to an unequal length exhaust manifold so a quieter exhaust won't affect it.

A quieter exhaust will make it quieter! Exactly what the OP wants to achieve.

Sound deadening is a good option, I would start with the boot and back of the rear seats if possible.

Some sound deadening can be heavy, so keep that in mind.

I wanted the flat 4 sound while giving it some welly but without being deafened while cruising about. Did a bit of research and ended up getting a second hand milltek turbo back (with sports cat) off ebay. In my view it ticks every box.

Obviously this sort of thing is subjective to what you are wanting from an exhaust, but from my point of view the Milltek is perfect.

I'm not fussed about weight, I was more after an effective solution I didn't want to waste money faffing about with sound deadening when for the same price I could simply switch out the exhaust if that makes sense.

Only down side is I can't exactly keep swapping exhausts until I find something that is quiet enough. Thinking that maybe I speak to a local exhaust shop?

Cheers for the help guys. Seems like buying an exhaust may be my best route, maybe even picking up a prodrive exhaust from ebay or something.

My only problem is I honestly have no idea how much has been done to the current exhaust so I guess I'll just get that looked at and go from there.

Think I might try temporarily putting some carpet on the back of the rear seats to see if it helps at all.

Is the centre section a straight through if it is put a standard one back on and as above the prodrive rear boxes are well made and quite quiet , and make enough noise of you want to make some noise

Popped to my local exhaust place this morning and they stuck it up on a ramp to take a look. Turns out everything is standard up to the backbox which is whats making a lot of noise.

If that is true, would a prodrive backbox just fit without any modifications?

Yes a prodrive backbox will bolt to standard centre section, when the were provided new as part of performance pack the centre section was left standard it was only back box and second cat delete pipe along with an uprated intercooler hose.

So I managed to pick up a Prodrive exhaust (which is much better and sounds great), but I'm now left with my old exhaust.

Is this of any value? It's standard fit as the Prodrive box just bolted up with no issues.

The photo I posted is of the backbox from my car with the only identification marks being those on the last photo. I was hoping someone might know what they mean

There isn't anything wrong with it, it's just too loud for me personally.
