How to id an sti engine?
Good day,
I've recently purchased a version 1 wrx import. It's had a fair amount of work done to it and been used as a track car. I'm led to believe it should originally have a cdb but there are no cross hatch marks on the block and the amount of work/money spent on it would suggest it probably isn't a cheap turbo 2000 replacement engine thrown in. Is there any way to identify the actual engine from wrx/sti etc? It doesn't have a red manifold..........

The only external way seems to be the cross hatching by the alternator bracket, although the odd one has surfaced over the years with out this.
And you point out the car is of that age who knows what is in there
It is a V1/2 engine but that is all I can say.
