Default Intercoolers - too big?

It appears that during the development of the new Focus RS it was found that under certain climatic conditions, small amounts of condensation were forming in the intercooler and causing slight misfire/stuttering. Ford have fitted a small(ish) blanking plate on the hot side of the IC as a solution! It begs the question as to whether the unit was in effect, too efficient?
I wonder if this scenario has ever been considered by tuners when fitting big front mounts on modded Subarus?
