Default Newage coilpack conversion on a 99 problems

I've got the JTI newage coilpack conversion loom for my 1999 and just cant get the car running right with it on.

1st time I fitted it, with a known set of decent sti coilpacks, the car would struggle to start, but once running was ok.

Spoke to JTI who suggested the cam/crank sensors needed screening and gave me instructions on how to run an earth from the taped up connector block by the ecu.

Did that, refitted the coilpack conversion and it starts no problem BUT theres a misfire in the rev range and a puff of smoke on start up, which isnt there on the ht leads/stock pack.

Anyone else running their conversion loom? Its completely different to the early v1/2 conversions, 1999/2000 only.

If anyone has any suggestions regarding earthing etc let me know. The loom is routed round the back of the inlet, away from as may electrical sources as possible.
