Hi all,

I picked up a 2005 STI not too long ago. It's been seen by a specialist and we've worked out it has an ekutek map on it. It also has a fully decatted system. It holds 1.5bar boost very nicely throughout the rev range, and the rolling road print outs I have put it at around 326bhp.

That's all jolly lovely, but I think 375-400bhp is a far better figure.

I don't really want to mess around too much, and if I'm honest would sooner fit a Cat as I can't bothered switching it around everytime it goes for an MOT. And the smell of fuel is quite excessive. By doing so, I will potentially loose power I'd have thought.

So what are my options to increase power but retain at least one cat? I guess fuel pump and injectors, remap and hey presto. But I'm stupid...

Injectors, maybe bigger turbo, uprated fuel pump. Does it already have FMIC and a Harvey trick up-pipe?

 

I've not fitted any of the items you mention

As said, if you want more than 350bhp you'll need a turbo something like a 20g, (or bigger if you're greedy like the rest of us) and more fuel delivery. The stock turbo is good for 340 give or take some, the stock IC will handle 350+ ok but the nearer you get to 400 the more likely it is you'll need a FMIC. Your injectors might deal with the increased demand but it depends on how demanding you are. My 05 ran the standard injectors up to 340bhp with no issues, but again nearing 400 you'll probably need an upgrade. A change to an uprated fuel pump would be a good idea.

 

The stock STi intercooler is OK up to about 350, no more.

I was running 300 on a classic with an STi6 TMIC, heat-soaked it playing with a Celica GT4 on a French motorway, destroyed the bottom end.

 

Should not stink of fuel that much, get the map checked out.

Maybe put tubular manifold and harvey up pipe if not already, you should see 340HP.

To get to 375-400 is the next step and involves changing the turbo. I wouldn't bother if i was you, you will lose response.
