Default Big water leak classic

My 96 classic has developed a pretty bad leak from the coolant. I've managed to locate it to somewhere behind the thermostat housing. There is no leak from the pipe or the gasket but as you can see from below picture it's a pretty constant drip when the car isnt even running (no pressure).
Am topping it up daily but due to work sometimes I don't have time to top her up for a very fast 4mile journey and don't wanna do any damage.

Water pump failure - there's a bleed hole that allows coolant out of the pump when the seal fails. That's where it's coming from

Not done a timing belt myself, I don't trust myself to not **** it up. Fiddly with the engine in place, easier than an inline 4 though. Radiator out makes things easier space wise.

Make sure the timing is right though. Friend of mine got someone to fit a belt for him, "specialised" in Mazda's. N/S cylinder head, the cams were 180 degrees out. It ran of a fashion.

If in doubt, pay someone that knows what they are doing to do it.

Ahh I missed the idiot troll lol!!
It's a bit of a pig of a job but if you're ok with mechanics you should be ok,it's a big old belt and having more than 2 hands helps.
There are some good guides about and I think a few YouTube vids which might help you out.
A good Subaru specialist will make fast easy work of it and the don't generally charge too much.

Simple enough job as said. It gets far easier with practice you don't need many tools until something goes T*Ts up. 10,12,14,17,22mm sockets and spanners. Screw driver jackstands and a vice to squeeze the tensioner.

Could it be the crossover pipe at the base of the engine? Common for it to rust right through.
