Default TD05 20g Twin Scroll. Guesstimations?

Waiting on the final piece of the puzzle arriving to up the power a wee bit on my JDM Widetrack before I (maybe pay someone else to, depends on how much time/help I get!) get a stroker block built!

Struggling to find anything on the t'interweb about the Kinugawa TD05 20g twin scroll, as that's the turbo I've opted for in the mean time. Apparently good for 350whp (420+ at the crank?) but I'm slightly sceptical, although a few blokes over in the US and Oz have posted some promising dyno graphs!

To that end, guesstimations from you guys? Particularly interested if any of you are running the single scroll version?

Spec will be as follows:

Standard JDM STI block/manifold set up
Kinugawa TD05 20g twin scroll turbo
Injector Dynamics 1000s
HKS short ram induction with cold air duct fed to the filter
Japspeed FMIC with OEM recirc valve
Decat 3" turbo back into Blitz Nur Spec R
Grimmspeed 3 port boost solenoid
Sytec 255lph fuel pump
PFR7b plugs
*Possibly a parallel fuel set up, time and cash dependant*

Currently running 365hp/tq at the crank, at 1.55bar with stock injectors, TMIC and cold air induction.

If you want to go down the route of a budget Hybrid twin scroll turbo then the best option is a Steamspeed one. They are modified Kamak turbos and will make good numbers all be it a bit laggy. STX67+ & STX 71 twin scroll

There are also mamba twinscrolls that have garrett type cores fitted with ntn Ceramic Dual Ball Bearings fitted. something like gt3071r would make 400+. I'm tempted to take a punt on one, I believe engine tuner fitted and mapped one of there turbos gtx3076r @1.8 bar on meth made 501, @1.5 bar 445 and @1.8 bar on vpower 465 that was a non twinscroll though.

Cheers for the advice chaps, but I've already bought the Kinugawa 20g, just waiting on it being delivered.

Seen the single scroll version make 410-420hp, so should be fine!

Probably going to go with something from Blouch or Borg Warner once I get a stroker built though!

Will do Ian, last thing I'm waiting on arriving now. It's been dispatched, so hopefully not too much longer, then a weekend of bolting things on, followed by mapping on the Sunday. Maybe another couple of weeks and we'll be there!

http://www.racedynamix.co.uk/remap/412-bhp-20g-impreza/

From one of Kinugawa's single scroll 20g units. Am I right in thinking the T/S will make slightly less?

kinukrapa more like, they have to be some of the most unreliable turbo's out there, some make ok power, some are complete crap and simply don't perform.

Would have been better getting an SC twin scroll or similar that actually prove reliable.

I've read nothing but good reviews on them. Made by Kamak, who actually supply/manufacture for IHI.

Just remember EVERYTHING you buy is made at the cheapest possible cost

My mapper has mapped a few Kinugawa turbos, all have delivered the goods.

Just have a look on a few threads on here, NASIOC and several other forums about Kinugawa turbos, not just what you assume

Kinugawa are made by ihi, nothing but good news on these turbos, have a look on race dynamics web site, he has feedback from the tdo6 20g which made good strong power.
as said above. well tryed and tested.
google it buddy, you will not be disapointed with your purchase..

find me one bad Kinugawa turbo thread... made by the same people that make our standered ihi turbos, made in the same factory by the people using the same machinary.
fiat do own farrari but fiat machanics dont build them do they.. nor do they design them.
some right chatters on this site.....

No worries from this end pal, I've done my homework and I'm fairly sure it will do the job until I get a built block dropped in mine. May even opt for a TD06 20g from Kinugawa if this one lives up to its expectations!

Unfortunately we can't all have tens of thousands of pounds to throw at a car..

As I've said above, the turbos are assembled and balanced in Taiwan, using Japanese parts. I bet most expensive (probably the same units with brand name 'tax' added on) are made in the same fashion. My mapper has tuned several cars with Kinugawa blowers on them and all have performed brilliantly. The Japspeed cooler is also tried and tested. Can't really go wrong for £200 odd quid either...

People are always quick to jump on a 'cheap Chinese turbo' bandwagon without doing research.

Yeah, it comes on song a couple of hundred RPMs earlier, could be for a number of reasons...

Look at the difference in torque vs rpm.....It appears to me that all you are interested in is the number at the top of the dyno plot.

I only glanced at it.

Again, we could be comparing chalk and cheese here. No idea of supporting mods on either car.

I'll post my results when on and mapped, but I'm fairly sure I'll be happy!

Yeah it arrived on Wednesday. Quality seems excellent and it came with a full fitting kit including gaskets, fluid lines etc. Hoping to have it on and mapped before the end of the month, so will post an update when done.
