Default Classic sport, engine refit

hhi every one!

need some tips and advice. my sport EJ20 lump had bottom end raddle. so after few hours managed to get the old lump out.

I have low mileage lump as replacement.

I had the car on stands and jacked the gear box up. the clutch fits the gear box shaft. but im unable to close the gap between the box and the block. about 1inchs gap between.?

cheers

It's probably going to be the splines on the gearbox shaft not lining up with the clutch drive plate splines if you've already centred the clutch properly (have you?). I suggest rocking the engine side to side slightly or else moving the crank by hand with a ratchet or spanner, that might line the splines up better.

If you haven't centred the clutch drive plate then you'll never get the box on properly.

I used a bold to help centre the clutch. watch WD Edd china with the Blob eye.
I'm sure its matching to the splines

does the end of the final drive . actually insert in the fly wheel ?

I used a socket that fitted perfectly in the drive plate with insulating tape wrapped around to centre the plate to the flywheel. Might be similar to what you've done. Not too sure what else could get in the way, maybe the release arm? Someone with better experience will come along soon I'm sure!

Yes the thin smooth end of the shaft fits into the pilot bearing which is in the centre of the flywheel. If your unlucky you can knock the bearing inwards out of place with the end of the shaft.
