Default What turbo for 2.1 stroker ?

Hi all,

Looking to get a new turbo for my 1996 impreza ra 2.1 stroker, with ppg gears. Been reading about the md series and the sc turbo's, but I've also been recommended the garrett gtx2871. Would like about 475bhp with good spool, anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers

A GTX2871 won't make 475bhp so you can forget that one for a start.
The MDX555 500bhp unit will do it as will as an SC50, but I'd have a look at the new Precision bolt on unit.
We've tried a couple so far and been very happy with the results having seen 473bhp from a stock engined 2004 UK STi.
They're £1495 + vat inc the fitting kit so similarly priced to the alternatives.

Cheers for the info guys, do you have a link to the precision turbo you're talking about. I've 'narrowed' it down to a rather large list of possible units so far! I'm wanting to maintain quick response from the car, track day orientated, and don't want too much lag, maybe going for around 450bhp will be a better idea?

Hi there

Personally I would go with SC42+ or MDX321T,both turbo are proven on numerous cars and we are made on MDX321T on 20% meth 490bhp,on V-power alone 452bhp

Hope this helps and good luck

Thanks,Jura

380-430bhp would sound about right on a 71mm comp wheel and a GT28 turbine.

Yes that is a completely stock engined 2 litre STI, unfortunately I've not fitted an SC42 on one. To be fair it's not a like for like comparison, it's more like an SC46 or 46 +.
