I've just bought a MY99 and it only has 12k miles on the clock but is 3 years old. It had just had its 30k miles big service but I'm wondering whether it will be ok to chance the cambelt service (45k miles or 3 years) a year longer. I'll have an interim service (7.5k) half way between now and then.

Has anyone had any experience with a cambelt going on such low miles? It will be on about 25k miles when I intend to do it next year. I've been told miles is more important than age. The car has no mods at all therefore no extra strain is being put on the engine.

Any advice because this is an expensive service but potentially a hell of a lot more expensive if it snaps.

No warranty implications, so it won't matter if I delay regarding that.

I would say that was its second one because the manual says change every 45k miles

Thumbs up

Or every 3 years as pointed out by you
You know it makes sense.....get it changed and sleep easy at night knowing you can plant that foot without hesitation, she's a finely tuned beast in need of much love and attention
plus they always drive LOADS better after emptying your wallet on them

On a serious note though all rubbers, plastics and oils degrade with time so why take the risk?

cheers...melon

I would stick to the service manual which states 45k or 3 years, to do the cambelt service

Thanks all. I probably will because I'm thinking of performance mods which will put stress on the engine.
