Service Time - What Oil 5w50 or 5w40?

Service Time - What Oil 5w50 or 5w40?
Scoobys due its service (4th since I've owned it) & have used Valvoline VR1 5w50 oil as that's what was used in the previous services the car had so didn't want to change but am I doing the right thing keeping it the same even tho people suggest 5w40?
Its for an 06 Blob Wagon dyno'd 292bhp if that helps
