Default Turbo upgrade on 2009 2.5 STI ??

So I've got a 2009 WRX STI

I'm thinking about upgrading the turbo as the engine is now forged and running sweetly

Does anyone know of the options of upgrades without going into silly money ?

Am I right in thinking the 42 part of sc42 means 420bhp would be the approx power ?

yip, so sc42 will slightly outspool a 46 but 46 will have higher peak. depends which route you wanna go

Ah I see so ideally because of the other mods on the car limiting the power a 42 would be beneficial really over the 46 as it will have more bottom and mid power, where as the 46 would take longer ? Because it's designed for higher boost ?

Quite complicated ,more than just picking the biggest turbo ha . What's the difference between billet and twin scroll etc there seems to be a lot of types
And garret and sc and other brands .

Ideally I'd like to maximise the power output from the car but not push it too far, as I don't think I'll be adding any more mods to the car. 0-100 is key I would say as don't really ever go above 70.

So if I'm currently running the below setup what would the best turbo be do you think ?

Standard 330s new engine with
Mahle forged Pistons
Mahle rods
Genuine new crank (as these are good for 700bhp)
ACL TRI steel race bearings
Uprated oil pump
Cosworth head hasket
Cosworth head bolts
AEM Induction kit
Updated ngk iridium plugs from scoobyclinic
H&S decat pipe
Prodrive second decat pipe
Pro drive cat back
All new earths plus extra

Yeah fair enough, I should of been a little clearer, what I mean is for a turbo of te apex the sc42 is. Am I looking at around £1000+? It's just I know how cheap the turbo units are alone and can't believe the mark up on these

I'm assuming you have gone FMIC, sorry if I missed that?

Also, no matter what turbo you get, install a Harvey Smith Trick up-pipe, available now from AS Performance.

No I haven't gone fmic yet. As I was advised tmic is good for up to 400. But if I was to change turbo then I would be fitting a fmic . But again it's cost ! Where's good for fmic ?

I honestly don't think unless I can get a turbo for around the 500 mark I'll be investing as I know the cost on these units as I have worked with parts for many years .
I do however think a up pipe and fmic is on the cards. And I always like to ensure my car is running cool even if it's not for more power

I keep hearing people say they are ok up to 400, at high 300's on my hawk it was holding it back, low to mid 300's and above it will start to hold you back.

As far as cost go's, you tend to get what you pay for, you can pick up a 20g for cheaper money, but it wont perform anywhere near as well.

The late, great Harvey Smith advised me no more than 300 on a TMIC.
Indeed, the demise of my engine was partly due to running 300 on a TMIC...

Fair enough and could of tributes to the reason my 330s went lol.

I'm waiting for Japspeed to get stock of their fmic as it's reasonably priced. Is there any other kits around this price available ?

Default T36

I'm not sure if it was bud?
Like I said I'd call Martyn at engine tuner, mines running 383bhp/440lbft
On the sti top mount, cat, and a 2.5 inch exhaust.....
Martyn did say the top mounts holding it back now, but my other half and my little girl don't need a front mount at the moment
It's plenty for the rd..
