Hi folks, I'm after some r1rs for my speedline st2s (7" wide I'm told). The tyres on there are 215 40 17s so naturally i was gonna swap them for r1r's in the same size but I've noticed that they're quite hard to get hold of. The 225s are a lot more common and therefore a bit cheaper and from what i read they will fit the 7" rim but my question is:

what will this do to the handling? Will it create a soft sidewall as it will obviously stick out further past the rim? Will there be more grip as the tire has a bigger foot print? Has anybody had experience changing from a 215 to a 225 on a 7" rim

I'd have thought 225 would be a bit wide on a 7" really, the STi runs the same section on an 8" rim although is slightly stretched.

I'd be more inclined to see if you can get anything in 205 as that'd be a better match for the rim.
