Hi all, im having an intermittent starting delay when i turn my key.

Sometimes i turn the key and it starts normally, but sometimes i turn the key and nothing happens so i have to hold it in the cranking position for a few seconds and eventually itdoes something and cranks over and starts.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a faulty starter . You dont say how old and what car

Might be worthwhile checking the condition and tightness of the earths around the starter area

Thanks Kev, will do that . I was kind of thinking about the starter or ignition relays? but not sure about this old of a classic.

Start at the easiest and cheapest first! You dont want to buy and fit a newer starter if all that was needed cost nothing

I had this happen to me. It turned out that the negative cable on my battery wasn,t tight enough. Steve.

Had similar fault on mine , turned out to be bad connection on the small spade on the starter solonoid, give it a clean but think you'll have to replace the starter.
