Default Intercooler replacement

Hey guys, need to replace my intercooler on my impreza 2000 1997 model soon but not looking to do front mount conversion or upgrade bhp just looking for another top mount. All i can find is front mounts, any other compatible top mount intercoolers even off newer impreza models?

I'd buy a Newage Wrx intercooler, thats what i've done, doesn't require much modifing, the newage STI one requires abit more effort, and cost alot more.

sure. Buy a newage wrx intercooler. Then your dump valve will not fit, and if you out a newage bov or anyhing else you will have idle issues as new bov needs a remap.

To double check,

see link bellow, your intercooler should look like it, but in black.

if yes, you need a V3/V4 wrx standard intercooler. should be plenty around on ebay. Don't get fouled by some prices, they should not be more than £30 in my opinion.

To fit your orignal dv use a kit like so, v4 and v5 intercoolers are pants might aswell stick to your standard one.

Cheers jay, looking to whip mine out in couple weeks and get new one in then. Trying to keep standard stuff but just renovate and bring it back to its former glory with new piping, new caps etc etc

Not if the idle control valve is in the way, it will need the front bit where the dumpvalve fits welding up, cut the dumpvalve pipe off the old ic and weld it on the passenger side

Does this let you fit a standard v4 dump valve to a new age intercooler

@Reebok classics I very much doubt this. This is because the hole where this goes, is right in front of the idle control valve.

While V4 Intercooler pipe exist is offset as you can see in the picture.

As i've never heard anyone else having this problem?

Hi all , as I mentioned earlier I have a newage wrx intercooler to go on my v4 , what is the easiest way of making it fit , as mentioned it will hit the idle control valve so do I buy a adaptor , if so where from, and if not do I weld the elbow off the original v4 cooler , or if anyone could tell me the best easiest way to do this , need to get this done before I upgrade injectors and turbo ready for a new map on esl thanks and have a lovely evening

Easiest way buy the adapter you can fit it all yourself, me personally will get mine welded as it's one more place to leak over time, maybe pm stefan see how much he'd want to cnc you one up like his?

Thanks for the info any idea where I can buy the adapter , or if I get it welded what is involved , cutting the elbow off my intercooler and have it welded onto the new age one , I thought it was a straight swap but have realised I was looking at the version 5 and 6 conversions which seems a lot easier to fit
