Default 5000 rpm and speed bump noise

Hi All

I am a total newb in terms of scoobs. I picked up a 2002 Bug eye WRX wagon on 72,000 miles over the weekend. It is totally standard but have a couple of questions.

1. It pulls pretty evenly but seems to drop off a bit between 5-6000 rpm. It then pulls again for the last push up to 6500 rpm. Is this normal or is the ECU doing something odd?
2. I went over a very steep speed bump and heard a noise from both sides at the front. Not a metal sound but more of a plastic or rubber kind of graunch. Nothing on the rear at the same speed. Is this something anyone knows about and is it going to need looking at?

Thanks in advance for all help offered.

Ade
