Dump Valves
Hi Everyone...
I am a little confused as the overall consensus regarding Dump Valves.
I currently have an aftermarket Baileys type DV and will soon be switching out my standard TMIC for a lager STI TMIC and may take the opportunity to change/update the DV.
I do like the blow-off noise but have read quite a few posts saying that the standard recirc DV is best.
I am currently un-mapped with various other mods and am planning to have the car mapped in the next couple of months.
The car is MY98 Terzo.
Thanks

despite what some folks claim, there is no detriment or improvement to the performance vta or recirc. Some cars don't like running a vta if not mapped for it, but beyond that there fine.
Baileys are pretty crap so a GFB is a better option, but its up to you

Everyone will tell you a VTA is a chav valve and it will blow your engine up. Rubbish. No evidence at all to show this to date. It CAN cause it to run slightly too rich, which COULD cause bore wash, which COULD in turn cause piston ring damage, which COULD cause engine failure. All very unlikely with the amount it changes the mixture by and as already said, no evidence so far of engine failure due to a dump valve.
I have an HKS SSV fitted to mine and the car was mapped and fuel corrected for it.
It's your car, fit what you want. I actually used a Baileys one for a while and it caused no running issues at all, but lots of people have reported problems as Tidgy said. Best off to stick with a forge, GFB or HKS unit.
Or the standard recirculating unit which has been proved to be very good.

Just get one
They are really smart and all the enthusiasts fit them and you will get respect on here
Loads of threads about IT as we haven't had a dump valve thread for ages
Most new posters want them
Quite popular with people that go to Argos for gold and sports shops for tracksuit bottoms as there is a special off on rear ward facing baseball caps if you present you mcdonalds receipts and photo of your dump valve fitted

Well, I've got the dump valve and the macdonalds receipt so I suppose I'll have to go shopping for a new 9ct gold plated sovereign and some sports wear this weekend...... Even though I can't run to save my life! 😜

Thanks for all the reply guys (sarcastic ones too), I do love the "chav" sound so will keep the dump valve but possibly look to replace it with a better one and have the car appropriately mapped with it.
😝
😝
I have a forge one on my forged hatch Sti (running 345/400) - and I'm going to replace it with the standard Scooby one (anyone have one for sale for a 2.5 Sti - I'd be interested),
I'm sure the DV is not helping me achieve bigger numbers, with all the other mods I have inherited, seems like I am replacing them with the ones which should have been installed in the first place to get the full potential of the car - But the DV is high on my list of suspects.
The sound is not to everyones liking, its ok on what is obviously a serious car, but on your Nova's etc they are just a bit Chav. - but heh - it's your car so do what you want. You can always remove.

At the moment it's kind of like I don't know what I don't know!?
The DV was on the car when I bought it but I don't really have anything to judge it by as my scooby is the only one I've driven so I'm not too sure whether it is effecting the performance or not.
That said, as I mentioned, I am pre-map so if I can keep the DV and have the car appropriately mapped it's win win.....

First it was dump valve sounds were in now it's compressor stall and anti lag pops and bangs and dump valves are chav.
We all like some sort of sound going on when you give it beans, I used to love the whine of my VF34 and the chirp of my dump valve on my Type R but it was a good few years ago and it was mapped for it, and anti lag was fun at times too.
Will I do it again, hell yeah pops and bangs, flames and DV less to get the compressor stall sound too.
Chavtastic FTW.
