Dark side to scoobby
Hi I did have a 400 bhp evo 3years ago , after a write off I have a mint 07 astra vxr 30k on clock that I hate but she is mint and it's locked away , well yesterday I met a old school mate that I ain't seen since school ps I'm 38 well he has 3 scoobs and guess what I'm hooked I got a poor 3k budget what's the best spec for a classic scoob and engine wise are they good he has a closed deck one but I can't afford that I'm after proper advice cheers guys plus I'm after a version 5 on wards

3-4k is not a bad budget, and you should be able to get what you want, problem is it's a waiting game, nice cars are limited and as such they tend to go very quickly when they come up.
This would be worth a look if you can do a deal with the guy, nice looking late car and the limited edition RA too boot :-)

Or, if you can compromise and look at an earlier a car, you could pick up a very clean JDM WRX like this which is up for less than your budget

In terms of closed deck/open deck blocks, forget it, unless your chasing big power it really doesnt make any odds and I wouldnt buy a car just because its cdb etc.
If you look after them properly the engines are tough old things generally, my old UK car had over 100k with no engine work and the original clutch, and was still running great! Likewise my current RA has over 120,000 on the clock yet has never had the engine opened up and is still going strong..
