Default Fuel pressure regulator - which one?!

Hi all,
I'm in the market for an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator and I don't know which is most suited to my needs as there are so many to choose from.

Car is a v6 type r, used on road and hopefully some light track use in the future. Currently getting parts for a swirl pot and parallel rail set-up and the last part I need (apart from braided line and connections) is a FPR.
I don't want to spend silly money if I don't have to but I don't want anything that may be prone to fail.

I'm guessing the sx (rcm), turbo smart and Fuelab are the best you can get based on the price (£200).

However are the sytec, fse, msv, prosport, d1 any good? All these are less than half the price.

Anyone have any good/bad experiences with any of the above?

Thanks in advance for any contributions

Yes that would probably be the one I went for if none of cheaper ones were any good. I thought that sytec were decent? Anyone had any issues with sytec? They are £90 on eBay or £100 at advanced automotive

I'm not tight and will pay decent money if needs be, just interested whether double the price is justified

I am not sure of any others so unable to answer your question. I also ran a universal cheap ebay job one for £60 and made 354.8bhp and 370nm torqe on standard turbo and the reg was absolutly fine no issues what so ever

See this is what makes me wonder. In reality would reliability only become an issue at higher power levels (I won't be going over 350bhp for some time if at all)?

I suppose the more valid question may be has anyone had an issue with an aftermarket FPR and if so what/at what power?

Wasn't aware they did a mini. Interesting as demon tweeks do the mini for £132 at the mo, that may be a winner!

When I bought it, it was priced about 10 quid more than the regular one - IIRC, 110 v 100 from Lateral. But that was about 4 years ago.

But it is significantly smaller - it's a thing of beauty lol

Hi there

I can say from personal experience we are run Fuelab as above Mini version,we are bought our one from Alyn@AS Performance and I think we are paid around £160

Those cheaper how to say, they will not hold the fuel pressure,I know my friend has run cheap ebay brand on his car and he must check'd every few days if his fuel pressure is still same,as he said, usually every few days his fuel pressure dropped from 2.1bar to 1.5bar on idle,we are suspected leaks, but we are check'd every possible line and nothing, due this I wouldn't risk to using cheap FPR,if yes then I would suggest you have in car fuel pressure gauge

Hope this help

Thanks,Jura

Before spending on a new FPR, try this... put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the fuel or better still take the FPR off and clean it through with neat fuel injector cleaner. This usually resolves most FPR issues.

Thanks Jura.
I would never use cheap eBay stuff, just wondered whether brands like sytec, fse etc were any good or not. They are sold as motorsport use at places such as demon tweeks and thus far I am still yet to find anyone having issues with these particular brands??

I am not having issues as such mate, would just like to have an adjustable jobbie so my mapper can increase pressure/tweak as necessary

Also one EVO friend recomended the SARD FPR ? any good? they are only about £86 and 3 port ones too.

And of course sytec ?

Don't you have to use a rising rate regulator?

you specifically want a FIXED rate regulator - rising rate can/does bring complications.......

FUELAB is one of the best IMO and have supplied/used for years -we also stock all fittings, hose, adaptors, etc. as required

Can someone explain the difference between fixed and rising rate regulators please?
I have a Fuelab regulator which is set at 3.7bar at tickover and rises with boost up to 5.3bar at full boost.
thanks

You're measuring absolute fuel pressure Trev. If you look at FP relative to boost you should see very little change.

Most likely yes. Don't confuse the mechanism with the parameter
