Default Noisy Clock Spring in steering column?

Hi All,

Have had a rattling (kind of buzzing) noise coming from somewhere in the steering column when driving over coarse tarmac or bumps. Was not there when I bought the car - 2005 WRX.

When I took my car into Paul at Extreme Scoobies, he mentioned it sounds like the "clock spring" in the steering column is making the noise.

Has anyone every replaced one - and did it get rid of the noise? Paul seemed to think that the part just wears out, and if you did replace it, it might be exactly the same, and therefore make the noise.

Have not had time to pull it all apart and put some sound deadening in, but it does sound like it something internal - not any of the steering column trim etc.

If you are going to have a look then please remove the battery connection. Good luck.
