1st issue, loss of power
Hi,
Right I'm new to car tuning so be gentle
I've had my car a few months now and It's got some sort of issue.
Basically the other day when i was on the motorway it suddenly lost power, the engine was still running, no noises or warning lights it just started slowing down and I had nothing under my foot, it would just not accelerate. As i got down to about 50mph the power came back and it was fine but, since then somethings not right.
The engine sounds and ticks over fine but it seems down on power too what it was, it's still quick but not like it was. The dump valve is nowhere near as loud as it was and the turbo doesn't seem to come in so quick.
Before If i was at a stand still and just blip the accelerator the dump valve would sound but now it doesn't.
As I said I'm new to cars and tuning so keep that in mind please lol, I will learn though. I'm 38 and haven't had a car since I was 19, I've been a biker all that time but due to family responsibility's I now need a car but I can't do slow hence having the scooby.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks In advance.

thought I'd post a picture of the engine, It's a 2002

As above check the boost level. Also as this has a cheap (no disrespect) dump valve I would look to put a standard recirc back on or get a proper DV. Check that the gasket is not leaking.
With the filter on this would suggest the car has had a remap? If so It might be worth contacting the garage that did it see if they can give you any history. Have a look at the turbo see if there are any more obvious signs.

Cheers fella, I'm gonna give him a call in a bit.
Right I've had the intercooler off today, lost a chunk out of my knuckle in the process though lol
Anyway, all pipes and hoses are all in intact with no splits. The piston in the dump valve is also moving ok within it's housing. Starting to think it's the actual turbo?? but wtf do I know.
It has a boost adjuster, can they fail at all to give me the problems I'm having??

Right, bit of an odd question.
Roughly what is this car worth in its currant state?
The engine is fine, starts fine, ticks over fine but it has no boost. I'm thinking the turbo may of gone but tbh I'm not 100% on that.
It has about 75,000 miles, mot is due in feb. The near side rear suspension needs attention as it makes a knocking sound when driving or if you just bounce the rear. The head lights need attention as well as they point too high.
It's a WRX but by all accounts its had work done on it, well you can see that from the pictures. I don't want to get rid of it but if the truth be known I can't afford to get it fixed and probably won't for a long time and I don't want it just sitting outside in the road, I'm also paying a lot for insurance for a car I can't use. I don't even have anywhere to get it off the road to declare it as sorn so I'm thinking of outing it, well I have too really.
So I just need a rough price to mark it up for.
cheers chaps

I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions: I find it actually impossible to check the condition of the turbo to intercooler hose (the one underneath the inter cooler that you can't see) without either using a £600 smoke generator....or more cheaply and easily - just removing the hose from the car and visually inspecting it (intercooler will need to be removed).
Turbo can be checked by removing the inlet hose and wiggling and turning the turbo shaft by hand. If it turns freely and there's less than 1mm of play. Its probably ok.
The heater could be a separate issue (low on coolant? )
