Default Which is quicker to 80 and 100mph? WRX or STI

Hi All,

Just wondering, i know Newage WRX's are quicker to 60 than STI's because they don't have to change to third to get to 60.

But at what point or MPH will a Newage STI take over a WRX?

Both standard.

Lads, just after a straight answer, preferably from someone that has actually experienced both.

So please, no arguing or negative comments.

Cheers all

sti easily and yes i have experienced both quite often too.

the 0-60 time as you say is due to grabbing third in the sti and not needing too in the lazy ratios of the 5 speed.

the lower sti ratios keep the car in the power band better

Cheers Fella,

From your experience, would it be fair to say that with any MPH above 60 the STI will get there first?

once above 60 its faster, lower ratios and more power.

as said earlier the ONLY reason it gets to 60 quicker is due to not needing an extra gear change

not for me paying someone to build something based on an inferior base.
i prefer to do the hard work myself, much more satisfying as cheque book tunings not for me.

but also my car would do a 0-60 launch more than once without the box sh1tting itself.

but a car running similar power and weight with one less gear change will be faster to 60 no doubt so you are correct.

225bhp v 265bhp = About 65mph. Up power to the same level 265 v 265 and the WRX will beat the STI to 100mph.

Up the WRX power 40bhp up from an STI 305 v 265 and it's gets embarrassing for the revered STI.

And the heavier transmission losses from the heavier box, clutch etc. I can imagine power measured at the wheels doesn't produce a 40bhp gap.

Also 1st and 2nd are so short on the STI, traction and hitting the limiter are a problem for the average Joe.

The there's the extra weight and drag....

...and extra lag from the bigger Turbo and intercooler if not launching hard.

The general pattern Tom is the WRX is faster in most scenarios.

Subarus biggest embarrassment to date was the 2009 WRX being streets ahead of the 2009 STI in performance.

Hell they even had to put an up-pipe on the UK Newage WRX and drop power 20bhp.

Ancient Egyptians often kept cheetahs as pets, and also tamed and trained them for hunting. Cheetahs would be taken to hunting fields in low-sided carts, hooded and blindfolded, and kept on leashes while dogs flushed out their prey. When the prey was near enough, the cheetahs would be released and their blindfolds removed

...but hey if you're happy with the Brembos and 700bhp handling 6 speed for road use then knock yourself out.

The JDM Newage WRX is just in a different class to the UK STI. It'd leave the STI like it was parked.

I have Newage JDM WRX envy.

Mappable, AVCS, strong engine, highly efficient 5 speed box, lighter with better spool and MPG. Some say better road manners for our bumpy roads.

In every way it's better than an STI.

You even prefer the dark grey WRX interior!

you are boring me with your endless wrx crap and no doubt everyone else on here so this will be my final post on the dull sti envy subject.

i have had the use of both cars back to back for several years which id imagine is quite rare on here and the sti is the better faster car in every single way, i know this from experience as do a lot of members

this is why the sti is far more expensive, oh and as for the wrx interior thats also incorrect i prefer the black sti spec c interior hence why i have it in my car.

So basically your 430bhp STI was streets ahead of your partner Emma's 215bhp Bugeye?

Now I know your trolling.

Everyone knows the more power you throw at a 6 speed the less likely you'll get a clean get away.

I bet she had some right fun with you at the TLG.

Or are you telling me you made her track it with you for more creepy self-gratification? Rolling start after sneakily ousting her restrictor pill and placing kitchen roll over her air-filter?

That's why I've modeled mine on the mind-blowing JDM WRX V-LIMITED Blob.

Rather that than a Slow Turbo Impreza

My newage STI was in a different league to my newage WRX.

I've owned both, I can assure you. I also wonder just how many times the WRX gearbox will hold up to 0-60 test..

BTW my poverty spec UK classic would destroy both of them.

Keep yer hair on it was intended as a joke, a light hearted quip in the face of such a serious discussion. Nothing more.
And he's not actually my Lord (capitalised 'L' )
