Default how to combat windscreen condensation

now winter is here both the vectra and the scoob have had ****-wet windscreens on the inside the past couple of frosty mornings

is there a preventive method to this? is there like an old wives tale about leaving the heaters in a certain position overnight?

Rain X Anti Fog Work's well.

However i just use Silica Gel ( Like found with new shoes in the boxes) wedged at the bottom of the windscreen. Works a treat on my scoob.

Also flicking the heater vents to Recirc can help if after a Decent drive and the inside of the car is warmed up

First off, make sure that any moisture inside the car is dried out and no more is coming in that you can't control, (like on your shoes/clothes). Inspect carpets, mats etc, dry mats outside the car if possible. Cure any leaks.

The above is vital: at this time of year, the slightest moisture INSIDE the car is vapourised during the day when the sun gets on it, re-condensing at night on the coldest areas: the glass. Unless you remove this moisture you will NEVER control the condensation.

Leave a dehumdifier, or one of those dehumidifier trays inside the car at night for a few days.

ALWAYS use the aircon if fitted: it dries the air, removing moisture that is there as vapour.

ALWAYS use the fresh air setting on the heater, or moist air from your breath builds up inside the car.

As above, check for moisture in the car. Stick the blowers on to air con too. Silica gel is GREAT! Buy loads of it, you can re use it by microwaving it. I normally put a load under the floor mats. Also, clean your window with isopropyl alcohol, that's basically what rain x anti fog consists of.

The biggest mistake people make at this time of year is leaving the heater vent setting on windscreen only. Meaning when you get in the car when its raining and your wet feet go on the carpet, the carpet gets wet, theres no warm air down there so they never dry out. This creates a damp car, damp car means wet windows.

So ALWAYS have the vent setting blowing some air on the feet, Always have the fans on (if its too hot or cold, adjust the temperature, don't turn it off). Turning on the A/C will dehumidfy the air too. And of course use outside air not recirculate.
