Default Have I bought the right turbo???

Hi fellas

My new turbo just arrived and after looking at it, it has stamped on it

"DSM-EVOIII TD05-16g"

Have I bought the wrong turbo? It was brand new off ebay from a seller who I got chatting to and he only sold it as he got offered a VF35 from a friend, I have done a little reading and it seems it should be OK as the EVOIII refers to the compressor wheel not the turbo itself, is this correct?

Post a pic up - showing the exhaust side's ports.

We'll be able to tell - simply by the shape of the exhaust side's entry and exit castings.

Single scroll exhaust exit should look like this:

...And its exhaust entry is this shape:

I'm on my phone so unfortunately cant upload photos but I've compared your pics to the turbo and they match, is that all that matters for compatibility?

Pretty much. Does the compressor outlet spout come out in the same position as in the first photo (relative to the exhaust side)?

If so, all good - std drop-in OEM fitment.

All you need to do is book it in to get it fitted and mapped. If it's a 16g, should make anywhere between 320-350bhp. Usually in the 330-340 area.

Yea, the turbo was lying the other way round to the photo but it does match both pics cheers for the help, I've got a few more bits to collect first before fitting but in the end I will have (full decat exhaust with prodrive downpipe and sti up pipe, 550cc injectors, sti tmic, 255 fuel pump and 3 port boost controller)

330-340 and I would be over the moon, not planning on going any higher as I cant justify the cost of a new gearbox

Sounds like you've got all the supporting mods covered... The turbo will have every chance of making the numbers.

If you haven't decided already, may I recommend Simon @ Jolly Green Monster as your mapper. He's done a few maps on my Imprezas, and I've not been disappointed with:

a) the power delivery (the way the boost comes in)

b) the power made

c) and also the reliability.

(Famous last words; gone and put the bloody mockers on it now, haven't I ).

Evo 16G is a Big 16G so will flow more than a normal TD05.

Ahh, I did wonder that.

Cool, at least the 550s will allow for at least 380bhp, so every reason to max out the turbo.

I'm guessing the BIG 16g is good for 340-360, no? Or even more...?

Where is he located? I'm in Lowestoft which unfortunately is out of the way of everything, I want to get the car fully serviced at the same time replacing all oils/plugs, etc

Does Simon have a dyno?

He's based in Kent, 135 miles away ...

BUT...

He is a travelling mapper (and I don't mean a pikey working for the Ordnance Survey ).

So pop him an email and he'll give you dates of when he's next up your neck of the woods, etc. He can map it on the road with you doing the driving (an experience! )... But if you need a graph or WANT it mapped on rollers then, between you, you'll have to agree a time/place at a dyno joint of Simon's choosing -- i.e. you may have to travel a little, or a lot, yourself.

P.S. I assume you, or a mechanic/tuner/specialist, will be fitting all your supporting mods/turbo, etc., beforehand?

Dam...and there was me thinking I could get a cheap driveway done on the side haha

I'm not too familiar with road maps, never had one, is it generic and then suited to the car? Will give him a look and dynamix too, is there anyway of knowing a rough figure without rollers?

I would like to say I will fit the parts but to be honest it is a recipe for disaster so I'll source everything inc service parts then pay for the labour

I assume you'll be getting your existing OEM ECU EcuTEK'd?

If so, first map costs IRO £650 all in (plus the dyno joint's charge for the power printout, if you get it done on the rollers).

That's because you have to pay 350 odd for the licence fee (and c.300 for the first map).

But any subsequent future maps or map tweaks (from the same mapper, at least) will cost anywhere between 150-300 (dependent on how much of the map needs changing, etc)...

I have no idea to be honest, I'm just going to wait until I get to that point, whatever the mapper decides I will go with

As said, contact Simon with all your questions - he'll put you in the picture.

A big 16G flows 550cfm @1bar, a small 16G is 510 CFM @ 1 bar.

A small 16G will do 340-350, big 16G should do about 360 I would think, maybe slightly over.
