Default steering wheel advice for a newbie

morning all, i have just joined this group as i have recently brought a y reg 2l sport scooby. i have a question a previous owner may well of changed the steering wheel for a momo wheel and the airbag light is on and the horn does not work. i just wonder is it much of a pain in the backside to take the airbag off and see if it has been connected up etc. i have worked on many cars but not removed an air bag before. any help would be much appreciated

Just make sure you disconnect the battery for an hour before, also worth turning the key on and pumping the brake pedal a few times as mine still have enough power to glow some dash lights.

Alarm may just sound on its backup battery for a while when main batt is disconnected. Much better than an airbag in the face

Can we see a picture of the steering wheel? Standard wheel is momo so will be interesting to see if it is a faulty sw or an aftermarket wheel

It's more than likely a faulty squib. Speak to the breakers on here for a new one.

When they go neither the horn or airbag will work.

Piece of cake.
Disconnect battery, you don't have to wait 1 hour at all. 5 mins would be more than sufficient - try pressing the likes of the hazard button flash lights etc to make sure theres no power left.
If its a standard steering wheel there will be 2 torx screws total, around 3 & 9 position.
Undo them - normally don't come right out then the airbag will just pull off.

Hope this helps

Also, the alarm may sound again just for a brief second when re connecting the positive - will go straight off though.
