What does this hose do???

What does this hose do???

So I was cleaning the engine bay today and seen that the hose pictured was not connected.
Would there be any reasonable explanation for it not to be connected?

Theres no clips hold these on so maybe cleaning it you have pulled it by mistake. I put a couple of jubilee clips on mine.

Hadn't touched that hose before so it's been like that for a while. Stuck it back on anyway
