Default Gauges fitted but!!

The boost gauge needle sits in the minus area and not the zero, so by the time it goes up and past the zero it only shows a reading of 0.5 psi, not sure if I've fitted it wrong? there was a boost gauge already fitted which was giving me a reading of about 1.0 to 1.3 psi so all I've is disconnected that gauge and put pipe to new Gauge..

Anyone now how to get needle to start from Zero?

Thank you in advance

It should be in the minus area on idle, that's normal. When the turbo starts spooling on acceleration is when you'll get a positive reading. Do you mean 0.5 bar as opposed to psi? That equates to about 7 psi which is a little low but not hugely abnormal. Your old gauge can't have been reading correctly if it was at 0 on idle.

Thanks for the reply Maz sorry typo error, yes it reads 0.5 Bar on acceleration, sits in minus on idle,
Old gauge was reading 1.0 to 1.3 Bar

Thanks

Maz is correct.

What is the car and spec, just so we can maybe understand what boost you might be running.

You can upload photos via Tinypic, that's what I use. It's possible your old gauge was over reading, as Rob says what's your spec as that should give an idea of boost levels.

Thanks guys, it's a Impreza 1997 Catalunya 3inch stainless exhaust all the way through decatted, Bailey BOV, was told by previous seller that engine was tuned/mapped, that's all I can tell you, only had the car a few months but just started using it.
Hope that helps

Thanks

Did you change any pipes around when fitting the boost gauge? only asks as it sounds like it might be running actuator pressure now?

Hi Sam, no didn't change pipes but put an adapter on the old pipe to extend it so it could reach the new gauge,

Hmmm just seems strange that it is running 0.5 bar which I believe is actuator pressure... for a tuned/mapped impreza you would expect 1.0 bar at least?

It was running over 1.0 Bar on the old gauge, but the new one it's just reading 0.5 bar which is low, is there a way of recalibrating the gauge, boost?
to get correct reading?

Sorry about all the q's, it's the first time I'm getting the gauges done.

Thanks

Rob the needle sits at 0 when switched off, when you start the car it goes all the way down to the minus area, same for the old gauge

Sounds like you're running at standard waste gate pressure. Perhaps something has went wrong coincidentally?

With boost pressure I'd get a garage that knows what they're doing to check it. Running less boost is fine but if it goes the other way it could all end in a big bang.

mine kicks in around that as well, and boost up to 15psi when vpower is used
strangely never goes around that mark on standard fuel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but should the Turbo kick in at around 2000 2500rpm?

Thanks

I would check if he replaced with a 2/3 port solenoid and if he replaced any pipes did he retain the restrictor pill?

It's a 2 port solenoid, I was there when put in the new one no pipes changed he used the original pipes, restrictor pill?

Also Ive just checked the Actuator Arm and it's bent just before the nut and thread and there is play as you try and move the arm by the clip?

Is that what's causing the problem do you think?

Thanks

I'll take a pic and try and get it on here, I don't know about the pill I'll ask him about it when I speak to him, there's a lot of Rust around the arm too..
