Default Engine fault diagnosis

The Forester broke down at the weekend and needed recovery - 45 miles from home

Just driving along in the Forester Sti (2.5l) and a ping of air wooshing (blow off valve releasing compressed air?) and massive power loss...

A couple of successive attempts to drive off after resting were the same - could hardly pull away

Fitting the 6-pin diagnostic computer thingy brought up the following fault codes:

P0102 Mass or volume air flow circuit low input
P0103 Flow A circuit too high
P0113 Intake Air Temperature sensor 1 Circuit High
faulty IAT sensor

NO engine check light on

NB! MAF was changed when I had car mapped a year back and not 100% sure if codes were re-set, so codes may be red - herring

Ah, the MAF's jiggered we thought. 'Cleaned it at the roadside - driver didn't have any isoprol stuff su used easystart - worth a try I thought... no help

So, brought car home

I then cleaned MAF with Isoprol - 50% improvement, so obtained 'new' to me (used) MAF - little bit better again, but still not right

What I'm getting now:

Off boost not running too bad - still down a little power though

Try and build revs and it's struggling. Put foot down more and and try and build revs higher gets backfire with surges of reduced power

Q: Do I need to reset the codes after fitting of 'new' MAF?

Any idea's very welcome

Cheers

Sounds very much like the turbo to intercooler pipe has either split, or come adrift, it's not uncommon. Hence the air that is now entering the engine is not monitored by the maf, or coming from the turbo (no power).
Certainly worth a look.

Yeah, the roadside chap thought a hose.

I've just had the I/C off and looked at every hose I can see. All look fine to me

Also, started it up (without IC on) and the turbo is blowing well
