Its probably a gearbox cooler fill the radiator with water and see if anything comes out it probably won't.

As above they are designed for an auto gearbox as an additional cooler. you can leave them un covered nothing will harm it or leak

Someone's been to Euro Car parts

Its a generic radiator...i.e to fit all models/varients of the Impreza

So as above, likely to be a gearbox/oil cooler. I've fitted quite a few EIS rads to various cars, but not Subarus, and almost always this has been the case.

If in doubt, run some water through the unknown connections and see which holes it comes out.

I have a collection of threaded bungs from recon power-steering racks/pumps, I usually put some of them in the unused holes.

Cool thanks guys waiting for my oil cooler to waterpump hose to arrive tomorrow then i can put the new rad in and new coolant and off to go....
Something alarming discovered though.... Dipstick for gearbox shows nil oil but she is parked on generic type diy ramps at the mo. Any idea how much the gearbox holds? Doesnt look like its been leaking ..... Hope its not been running too dry there is a wheel bearing type noise at the back end....

I did a gearbox oil change and put 3.5 litres in it,if you have a dual range gearbox it's 4 litres.....that's straight out the handbook..

I run a 98 turbo 2000 by the way.

Happy days

Erm, because the dipstick shows nothing it doesn't mean its empty. The dipstick shows the last 1litre of oil. So there is probably another 2 litres still in there. The same applies to the engine oil dipstick too.

Needs pointing out before you dump in 3 litres and end up overfilling it
